Ethos

Joy in enabling.

Unfolding what is already present.

The Nature of the Foundation

What does the Widukind Foundation work toward, support, or foster?

Principle:
The idea of the foundation seeks to keep open a space
between two tendencies that are widespread today:

  • fixed prescriptions of institutionally standardized control
  • and an arbitrary, groundless coexistence of unrelated elements.

Our intention is a gentle indication toward an attentive attitude and shared perception,
within which an order that is not predefined may reveal itself playfully—
one that opens possibilities rather than imposing limits.

Playfully

Playfully, because in our creative and artistic collaboration we consciously remain
outside the pressure of deciding scientific or political questions—

and through many years of experience have come to recognize the importance of
the foundations for human development that arise through the joy of enabling.

A Simple Principle

The guiding principle of our initiative is:

Uplifting

Uplifting does not describe something elevated, superior, or detached,
but rather that which supports and carries.

It does not evaluate people or content.

It describes what occurs between people in the moment of a presentation:
whether the moment is experienced as supportive, expansive, clarifying, and connecting.

Alongside the many automatisms of contemporary society,
this approach may initially seem unusual.

Not loudly opposing,
but quietly bypassing what has become habitual,
it reveals what is essential.

Not through what it introduces as something new,
but through the way it organizes perception.

The Space

The space is not a concept.
It is an event, here and now—
sustained through attention, stillness, and openness.

Sometimes it reveals much.
Sometimes it reveals nothing remarkable,
and through that very simplicity becomes opening.

A spacious field does not arise through making,
but through the willingness to allow something to emerge.

Thus we have moved away from the idea of an “evaluation of spatial quality”
toward personal responsibility in perception.

Place

“The Encounter” is a developing site
on the Austrian–Hungarian border
in the rural village of Szakony.

A place in the process of becoming.

Decisions

Decisions regarding invitations, performances, or participation do
not arise through discussion or evaluation systems,
but through shared perception.

A circle of changing companions carries responsibility for orientation.

Guiding question:

Does this moment expand and support the space that has been opened—or not?

“Uplifting within the space.”

Where coherence becomes visible, something may be included.
Where clarity is absent, the matter remains open as an indication of future possibility.

Sometimes clarity only emerges through action.
In such cases, perception and adjustment may follow afterward.

Tensions and Differences

Different perceptions belong to encounter.

Tension does not need to be resolved immediately.
Often it is enough to perceive it clearly and allow it to remain for the time being,
without fixing it into certainty.

In this way, time does not become pressure, but a field
within which clarity may develop.

Responsibility

There is a small coordinating structure for organization and process,
which intervenes only when necessary.

Responsibility is distributed—
perception remains shared.

Companions

Companions are people who share the same path for a time.

Is the Widukind Foundation Spiritual?

The foundation does not seek to formulate a new belief system,
nor to privilege an existing one.

It points toward a space in which perception, encounter,
and human dignity may be experienced.

This space is not bound to any worldview,
yet it is not without attitude.

The question of possible spiritual sources remains open.
Some companions relate to such sources personally—
the foundation itself does not name them.

One companion expressed it this way:
“As long as the source communicates itself,
we need not speak about it.
And if it should one day appear to fall silent—
perhaps our quiet wonder will still be enough.”

The Book

Our book “The Moment” does not seek to persuade, but to lighten.

It presents perceptions and human scenes
in which language remains simple,
and vulnerability and dignity walk side by side.

Not a theory of life,
but a reminder
that life was never absent.

Observation Instead of Prescription

We therefore do not attempt to place a model over people,
to convince them,
or to shape them according to an idea.

We observe what happens
when attention, responsibility, and encounter are lived—

and often an unfolding spaciousness emerges from this naturally.

Activities

The foundation shares exemplary expressions of creativity through its digital forum.

The encounter weeks and concerts are not performances in the conventional sense,
but expressions of a shared joy in
the beautiful,
the simple,
the essential.

People of different
professions,
nations,
age groups,
and forms of expression
come together and enable one another’s unfolding.

Word,
image,
music,
design,
movement,
lectures,
exhibitions,
craftsmanship,
conversation,
silence,
shared meals,
tidying up,
and simple togetherness—

all stand alongside one another as equals.
Everything is possibility.
What matters is presence.

The space that opens belongs to itself.
We do not need to improve it.

We may walk through it together as guests,
discovering what reveals itself.

The gain lies not in the result,
but in the joy of becoming.

One of the most beautiful forms of being
is devotion through enabling.

Summary of the Fundamental Understanding

The foundation is a framework within which connection may arise.

It invites,
observes,
reveals.

What emerges from this does not belong to the foundation.
It belongs to life itself.

Closing Words

Life happens in the moment.

Sometimes a single moment is enough,
one in which nothing needs to be explained.

Simply be.

Simply perceive.

Simply become still.

And in stillness it becomes apparent:

The space is already here.
